Synonyms are different words having the same meaning.
Homophones are words that are pronounced the same but differ in meaning, origin, and sometimes spelling.
(‘Homonym’ and ‘homograph’ are synonyms for ‘homophone’).
Heteronyms are words that have the same spelling as another word but with a different pronunciation and meaning.
('Heteronyms' and 'homographs' are also synonyms).
(And since my lousy research revealed the possible anomaly with the word ‘homograph,’ ‘homograph’ is a homophone).
So, what are words with the same meaning, but different spellings called?
3 come to mind right away; theater/theatre, center/centre, and color/colour.
I ask, because I don’t know.

words with the same meaning but different spellings are called Homonymes. typical of french words that were "too good" for the original greek or latin spelling.
