Silent Trio:

Was the other band I was playing in this year. I miss them. Here's a killer recording session at my house. Nathan has so much awesome equipment, as seen.

Another treat for you; Cannonball Adderley 6tet - Jazz 625 - Poor Butterfly:

Friday, October 19, 2007

an email to some fellas whom musical opinions i respect:

before i deployed, my band rehearsed a few marathon sessions. while
we were starting to loose our minds, my guitarist, Matt, started
playing old metallica. like most starting metal guitarists at a young
age, he learned every minutia lick. i was floored. it got me
thinking and i extend this ponder to you guys as i'm trying to
convince this non-metal band to covering a 'tallica tune:

what metallica song off of master of puppets or ...and justice for all
would you cover/should we cover?

orion sticks out because it's an instrumental and we-no-likey-singy.
we could force vocals though. your thoughts for free...

here's my list-in-progress:
1. Dyers Eve
2. Damage Inc.
3. ...And Justice For All
4. Blackened
5. Orion
6. Battery
7. Eye of the Beholder

another good friend quote:

from thom about our ditties we email each other and work on (that you can listen to on my Bandwagoneers site). i mentioned how i'll get to it asap because i always take freak'n forever to return his tunes.

don't let it loom
or be a burden
just have it as a jam around

seriously. i make music, the thing i love the most, work. what the hell is the matter with me?!

Would we be friends?:

every now and again, someone writes me an email that i find amusing enough to post on here. as of the last year, i've tried to reduce the amount of diary-esque crap i post here.

from friend Helen who just watched one of the Henry Rollins dvd's i lent her and friend, Rich:
'i really think you and henry should hang out... you 2 are really similar - in a manic type of way!'

well, i suppos i agree - he is one of 2 heros of mine listed on my mywasteoftime.com site. a hero because of his relentless business.

My Newest Obsession:

Is Schfvilkus. Dagnabit if my neighbor/chum laid their album, Genrealization, on my ass today.

We were talking about the band I’m in, Mare’s Nest, and how I’m trying to sell us to clubs and bars. We have a demo that I’m pushing on bars and clubs but feel foolish, as I’m no salesman. That, and how the Mare’s Nest boys and I have been discussing recording options.

My neighbor mentioned his high school friend that records in Nashville. This chap publicizes as well as records.

Turns out, my neighbor’s friend is also in the group Schfvilkus. Neighbor whimsically mentions how the sax player plays with Bela Fleck. ‘WHAT?! YOU MEAN JEFF COFFIN?!?!!

‘What?! I can’t believe you know Jeff Coffin!’

‘What?! How could I NOT know Jeff Coffin. The dude pounds. The Flecktones pound. I’m a bassist and sax player. Yeah, I know of Jeff Coffin.’

‘Well, my friend is friends with him.’

‘Shut the f*%& up.’

Doo doo doo, looking out my _____

This is from my bedroom. 'Twas a nice morning, and the backyard was looking especially ...lush...

my treat to you:

Sleep Terror is a group that unfortunately, i couldn't get in on because i moved out of seattle. sleep terror is luke jaeger's baby. i was fortunate enough to play with him when i lived there. for the longest time and possibly still, luke played with a drummer, and no one else. this homie, it appears, is auditioning. it's damn good. i'm jealous, and therefore, posting this.
